Video: Increased Occurrence of Domestic Abuse Among Cops

CONTENT WARNING: This video contains information and scenes regarding domestic abuse and violence that some viewers may find disturbing.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In complement to our monthly meeting, which focused on the issue of domestic violence, we want to call attention to an oft-overlooked issue that affects many families.

The increased rate of domestic violence among law enforcement cannot be explained away by citing the level of danger associated with the job. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, law enforcement officers are not included among the ten most dangerous occupations in the United States. As such, we urge that more research be done to determine the cause of the disproportionate rate of abuse among law enforcement officers.

If you are being abused, and want help, following are ways you can received the help and support you deserve:

**National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233

**The National Coalition of Anti-Violence Programs
24-Hour Hotline at 212-714-1141

**Crisis Text Line by texting “START” to 741-741
